Working together for growth and jobs. A new start for the Lisbon
strategy,
Communication to the Spring European Council (European
Commission, 2 February 2005)
After initially moderate results, the 2000
Lisbon Strategy was simplified and relaunched.
Key elements include knowledge and innovation for economic growth,
research and knowledge transfer between business and education,
upskilling and reskilling for high-level skills and associated
employment, etc., in a context of enhanced global competition and
economic migration.
The refreshed Lisbon
Strategy has significant consequences for policy and strategy in
education and training, including the teaching and learning of
languages.
