New web pages dedicated to teaching community
languages to primary school children have now gone live on CILT’s
Primary Languages website.
A recent survey by the Department for
Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) showed that a record 900,000
school children in England speak another language other than
English at home. The new area on the Primary Languages website
includes advice for teachers on how to celebrate other languages
spoken by children in the primary classroom.
The new pages offer examples of curriculum
models and case studies of community languages being taught as part
of the KS2 primary languages entitlement. Visitors to this part of
the website will also find detailed information and advice on
classroom practice, enhancing the curriculum, forging partnerships
and professional development.
The
Primary Languages website is an essential free resource for
teachers looking for advice, guidance and ideas for language
teaching in the primary classroom.
