With the dust barely settled on this year’s
Cannes Film Festival, free INSET sessions are being run in London
this June advising MFL teachers how they can bring filmmaking into
the classroom.
The idea behind the Trans-lingual Express
project is to develop pupils’ enjoyment and understanding of
foreign languages by encouraging them to make short films in
French, German, Spanish or Italian.
The four sessions next month will give
teachers the chance to handle cameras themselves, make their own
1-minute films, and learn how filmmaking fits into KS3, KS4 and KS5
topics. They also get practical insights from teachers who have
already taken part.
The INSET sessions will run from 4-6pm at
cultural centres in London during the week of the
14th–17th June, with teachers of Italian and
German especially encouraged to sign up and come along.
Trans-lingual Express won a European Award for
Languages in 2008.
The seminars are being run by the arts
education charity Eastside Educational Trust. More information and
booking forms can be found on the EET website here.
