Recent developments:
On 20 July 2009 the government announced that an extra 10,000
places are to be made available to support more students going into
Higher Education in autumn 2009 in these disciplines, which
are classed by Higher Education Funding Council for England
(HEFCE) as 'strategic and vulnerable'.
Arguments have been
submitted as to why languages, also classed as 'strategic and
vulnerable' should be considered for a similar measure - read the
press release at the Department
for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) website.
